The Charm of Middlebury

Chartered in 1761, Middlebury has flourished as the gem of Addison County and a point of convergence for leaf peppers, locals and other visitors to Vermont.  It has the largest population of all towns in Addison County and serves as the commercial and business center for the region. It features small town appeal with the convenience of a larger city and boasts a three-screen movie theater, post office, two historic inns, Shaw’s and Hannaford supermarkets, two drugstores, gas stations, several fast food restaurants and lots of great restaurants and shopping opportunities. One of Middlebury’s most popular attractions is Otter Creek and the magnificent falls in downtown, which are accentuated by the iconic footbridge on which a scene from Me, Myself & Irene was filmed.

Perhaps the biggest draw of visitors to this quaint town is the Middlebury College, which was founded in 1800 and is renowned for its leadership in language instruction and international studies. Middlebury College is active in the community and presents cultural events for the community throughout the year. 

Middlebury is also a popular destination because of its central location in Vermont. It is crossed by US Route 7, VT Route 23, VT Route 30, VT Route 116 and VT Route 125. It is a 45-minute drive to Burlington and 1-1/2 hour drive to our state capital, Montpelier.

Getting around and out of Middlebury is also simple by public transportation with bus lines running around town and direct to Albany, Burlington, Rutland and Bennington.
